Evaluation of small hydel units in Nepal

Abstract:
We examine the economic viability of small hydel units in the hills of Nepal. Although all these have good economic returns, a multi-purpose power unit is more beneficial than traditional wheels for the grinding of grains. Diversified agro-processing is preferable to a single mode of operation employing small hydel units. Electricity generation for lighting is not as lucrative as agro-processing.
