Abstract:
We have studied the effects of K2CO3, Ni(NO3)2, K3[Fe(CN)6], and combinations of K2CO3 and Ni(NO3)2 in different proportions on fluidized-bed gasification of a typical Indian coal containing 36.7% ash and 30.6% fixed carbon. The temperature range covered was 500 through 800 °C. The results indicate that 10% K2CO3 + 1% Ni(NO3)2 at 700 °C yielded a COCO2 ratio of 1.48 and a (CO + H2)CO2 ratio of 3.0. The energy of activation was reduced to 2.02 Kcal/mole and the calorific value increased to 190 Btu/cuft at 700 °C. The catalytic mixture provided enhancement of gasification rate in a single-step reactor.
