The premium for self-sufficiency in liquid fuels

S.J. Gale

Energy, 1987, vol. 12, issue 1, 45-52

Abstract: Given current opportunities for New Zealand to move towards self-sufficiency with synthetic fuels produced from LPG or lignites, it is useful to quantify the benefits of local production. The most obvious advantage is the reduction in the country's vulnerability to price and supply disruptions in the world petroleum market. We outline the security of supply benefits associated with marginal domestic output, with examples that probably cover the range of patterns of likely disruptions.
