Energy and economic returns from legume crops as green manure and fodder

Energy, 1987, vol. 12, issue 1, 97-99
Abstract:
The use of legume crops as green manure and fodder has been studied. Data obtained from several field experiments conducted to quantify reduction in fertilizer dose by green manuring form the basis of this work. Returns from marketing of legume crop as fodder are about 4 times those resulting from fertilizer savings by burial of the legume crop. These returns are comparable to increases in crop yield associated with green manuring.
