Abstract:
An air-cooled 2.5 kW phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC) stack manufactured by Energy Research Corp., Danbury, CT, was fueled by dry simulated reformed biogas, and its steady-state electrical characteristics were determined. The energy-conversion efficiency was also determined and compared with the efficiency of the same stack operating on a gas mixture corresponding to that of reformed methanol or reformed natural gas. It is shown that PAFC systems can be efficiently applied to electrical load-following using abundant biomass-derived fuels in remote areas.
