Abstract:
In this study, the use of oxygen-enriched injection gas as a means of increasing the fuel concentration is investigated. Results from simulation show that with an increase in oxygen mole fraction in the injected gas, the combustion-front velocity can be increased relative to the displacement front velocity. Thus, more oil is left to be consumed as fuel, and sustaining a combustion front in light oil reservoirs becomes possible. As a result, in situ combustion can be applied as a means of oil recovery for light hydrocarbon reservoirs, particularly where the water-treatment cost will make the application of water flooding an unprofitable venture.
