A case study of energy savings due to the economizer system in Montreal

Abstract:
We present a comparison, based on computer simulation, between an economizer and a conventional cooling system for a fixed amount of outdoor air, operating in the Montréal climate for interior spaces which require cooling during 12 months per year. We compare the cooling-coil load and the energy consumption, using hourly weather data over ten years (1974–1983). The results show that the reduction of the cooling-coil load is about 7800 kWh/(1000 m3/h) per year and the energy savings are about 3300 kWh/(1000 m3/h) per year.
