Application of finite-time thermodynamics to MHD power cycles

Murat Aydin and Hasbi Yavuz

Energy, 1993, vol. 18, issue 9, 907-911

Abstract: We present an analysis of the thermal efficiencies of two different types of MHD-generator cycles operated at maximum power output. The results are compared with the Curzon and Ahlborn efficiency. For electrical efficiency ηe approaching unity, the MHD-cycle efficiency is the same as that of Curzon and Ahlborn. Dependencies of cycles producing maximum work are also analyzed with respect to electrical efficiency, Mach number, and temperature ratio.
