Abstract:
This paper describes a modified advanced vortex combustor that is designed to overcome the incomplete combustion of fuel. The proposed advanced vortex combustor is characterized by a variable cross-section with a bevel and guide vanes. Detailed numerical simulations demonstrate the combustion characteristics of the proposed modified advanced vortex combustor. In addition, the effects of the incoming velocity and equivalence ratio on the performance of the modified advanced vortex combustor are analyzed. The results show that the proposed advanced vortex combustor achieves excellent efficiency, low NOx emissions, a uniform outlet temperature distribution, enhanced outlet velocity, and acceptable total pressure loss. Through computational analyses, it is also shown that the combustion efficiency decreases slightly and the total pressure loss rises significantly as the incoming velocity increases. This modified advanced vortex combustor is well suited to working under lean-fuel conditions.
