Abstract: Efficient planning and operation of the power distribution networks are paramount. Losses along the power distribution network are responsible for the loss of a large deal of energy and capital every year. Numerous projects are being defined and implemented targeted around the idea of reducing losses, which are rather expressed and implemented in terms of an organization of the existing networks. Accordingly, we address a loss prioritization research project with a case study on Tehran’s Electrical Distribution, to increase their productivity. Managers and experts of the Tehran Electrical Distribution Company comprised the research population. Data gathering was conducted through collecting experts’ opinions via a questionnaire. The Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) technique was then used to undertake a comparison among the identified factors, while Vlse Kriterijumsk Optimizacija Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) technique was used to select optimal alternatives. The focus of this article is twofold. As distribution of energy is one of the important indicators in the competitiveness, this research is performed for power loss evaluation. Moreover, the combination of decision-making techniques is employed for evaluation, weighting, ranking of power losses attributes of electricity distribution network. As a result, the most important and effective factors in developing power losses along power distribution networks were identified, and the optimal alternative to improve the trend of modification and optimisation activities on the distribution network was determined. In this context, technical loss is ranked as first and non-technical loss is ranked as second criteria.
