Abstract:
Driverless vehicles will impact the future of transportation, yet the factors underlying perception of driverless vehicles are still unclear. The study examines the factors influencing public adoption of driverless vehicles through a survey experiment, comparing the impact of interest-centered versus technology-centered information strategies. The results reveal that perceived benefits, perceived risks, and attitude are the key factors influencing behavioral intention. Interest information plays a more significant role in promoting public perception and behavioral intention compared to technological information. Interest-centered information significantly enhances the positive effects of cognition on perceived risks and mianzi on behavioral intention. The study stresses the importance of mianzi and information strategies in shaping public behavioral intention towards driverless vehicles. Managerial implications for stakeholders to enhance public behavioral intention to adopt driverless vehicles are provided.
