Energy, 2025, vol. 319, issue C

Abstract: Accurately determining the pyrolysis rate and heat release rate throughout the entire pyrolysis process of lignocellulosic biomass remains challenging for current methods. The study proposed methods to calculate and implement the continuous pyrolysis rate of Finnish pine, and the variation of pyrolysis heat release rate with conversion degrees based on experiments. The two rates were accurately described using a segmented polynomial fitting technique, which shows excellent agreement with the experimental data. The method can also be used to describe the secondary pyrolysis process of Finnish pine. The research methodology establishes a fundamental framework for future investigations involving the implementation of pyrolysis rates and heat characters in lignocellulosic biomass pyrolysis simulations, with the potential to increase the simulation accuracy.
