Abstract:
Wind turbine clusters experience wake effects, characterized by reduced wind speed and increased turbulence downstream. These effects significantly decrease the performance of downstream turbines. Wake steering technology mitigates these losses by deflecting the wake through a slight rotor misalignment of upstream turbines. This reduces upstream turbine output but enhances downstream performance, leading to a net power increase. Numerical simulations (FLORIS code) have been carried out and annual energy production (AEP) and revenue (AVP) have been analyzed for six wind farms based on real-world layouts, 2023 ERA5 wind data, and ENTSOE electricity prices. Results show AEP gains of 0.2–1 %, with revenue increase exceeding AEP gains due to higher electricity prices at lower wind speeds.
