The role of renewable energy transitions in promoting sustainable rural tourism and cultural heritage preservation: Health, economic, and environmental impacts

Abstract: This study uses the LUT Energy System Transition Model (LUT-ESTM) to look at air pollutants, public health, and economic costs from 2015 to 2050. This study assesses the results of a global shift to 100 % renewable energy. The report projects that by 2060, emissions of NOx, SOx, PM2.5, and PM10 from the energy sector will be 92 % less than in 2015. As a result, the number of premature deaths caused by air pollution is expected to fall by 97 %, from 5.2 million to about 150,000 each year, and the economic burden should drop by 88.5 %, from €4600 billion to €529 billion. Aside from health and financial advantages, the study points out that using renewable energy supports sustainable development by making air quality and the environment better, which helps rural and cultural tourism. Improved air quality helps keep cultural heritage and countryside intact, which encourages sustainable tourism and supports the well-being of local people. As a result, it has been found that building up renewable energy can benefit public health, improve the economy, and promote sustainable tourism, highlighting the way energy policy is closely linked to overall sustainable development.
