Abstract:
Based on Afsharian and Ahn (2015), we put forward an Overall method to measure New Quality Productive Forces (NQPF) at the city level in China. We further use the generalized difference-in-differences model to study the impact of power marketization reform on NQPF. We find that, the power marketization reform could promote NQPF by 0.08 %, and this result is supported by multiple robustness tests. Mechanism analysis shows that the power marketization reform could promote NQPF through advancing market efficiency, optimizing energy efficiency, and reducing the power consumption in residential sector. These findings provide policy references for the marketization reform of other energy sources and the improvement of NQPF in China, and also offer valuable experience for the development of energy markets and sustainable development in other developing countries.
