Carbon-aware IES energy management based on green hydrogen blended CHP and seasonal monitoring of carbon trading strategy

Abstract:
In order to address the increasing operation costs and carbon emissions of integrated energy systems, this paper proposes a carbon-aware energy management framework. The source side of the integrated energy system incorporates a green hydrogen blended combined heat and power system that converts surplus renewable energy, which cannot be directly utilized, into green hydrogen. This approach mitigates energy wastage and enhances energy utilization within the integrated energy system. Additionally, a seasonal monitoring of the carbon trading strategy is developed, which refines the conventional annual carbon trading method by considering the seasonal fluctuations in renewable energy availability and load demand. This strategy enables more accurate and dynamic carbon emissions regulation, further reducing the system's carbon emissions. The demand side adopts a sophisticated demand response scheme that accounts for the industrial production process. This scheme optimizes energy consumption by adjusting the timing and duration of energy usage, based on real-time supply-demand conditions, effectively reducing carbon emissions on the demand side. The efficacy of the proposed optimization model is validated through case simulations of an IES integrating the IEEE 33-node power system with a 6-node heating network. The results demonstrate a significant reduction in annual operation costs by 29.9 % and a 9.8 % decrease in carbon emissions, highlighting the framework's practical viability.
