Residential refrigerators: Energy conservation and economics

Robert A. Hoskins, Eric Hirst and W.S. Johnson

Energy, 1978, vol. 3, issue 1, 43-49

Abstract: A detailed computer model is developed to calculate energy flows and electricity uses for residential refrigerators. The model is used to evaluate the energy and associated initial cost impacts of alternative designs to reduce refrigerator energy use. Implementing all the changes considered, except for elimination of the frost-free feature, would cut electricity use 52% and increase purchase price only 19%.
