Abstract:
The notion of “conservation” with respect to energy consumption is developed. Two types of conservation are identified: those directly related to economic variables and those not so related. The empirical section of the paper suggests that only economic induced conservation has occurred and that it has occurred in substtantial amounts. Policy implications of these findings are discussed.
