Abstract:
The thermal interaction between a large solar pond and the surrounding ground is considered. For a given sinusoidal variation of the temperature at the bottom of the pond, the time-dependent temperature profiles in the ground are calculated and the corresponding heat fluxes to or from the ground as functions of time are obtained. The temperature variations in the ground for several years are plotted and the heat transfer between the solar pond and the ground thermal storage is discussed. The efficiency of the heat recovery is studied and its significance is pointed out.
