A performance and economic evaluation of annual cycle energy storage (ACES)

R.S. Miller

Energy, 1980, vol. 5, issue 2, 183-190

Abstract: The performance of a residential annual energy storage scheme utilizing ice storage and a three-coil heat pump is evaluated for a range of climates and storage sizes. Comparisons are made with conventional electric resistance heat with central air conditioning or an electric air-to-air heat pump. Economic evaluations are made with payback and with present value life-cycle costing. Annual energy storage is found to be uneconomical.
