Safeguarding the energy supply—A challenge to the European community

Energy, 1981, vol. 6, issue 4, 383-387
Abstract:
The necessity of maintaining an adequate energy supply in the face of the two oil crises of the past seven years has challenged the European Community (EC) to formulate a joint European energy policy. An analysis of the energy consumption and the economic situation in the EC in 1979 shows heavy dependence on imported fuel, along with insufficient economic growth, rising prices and increasing pressure on the balance of payments because of the increasing burden of rising oil prices.
