Abstract:
Renewable energy technologies have received considerable attention within the past five years for their potential to help meet basic needs in developing countries. The state-of-the-art of three technologies (wind-energy utilization, improved cook-stoves, and solar drying) is reviewed. A variety of significant activities are underway but widespread dissemination of these technologies does not yet appear to have occurred; new and renewed efforts, including research and development, are needed.
