Pan-Europeanisation: Myth or reality -- CMB packaging
Jim Hamill
European Management Journal, 1992, vol. 10, issue 4, 477-484
Abstract:
The author relates academic literature on the factors influencing merger and acquisition performance to the recent and important attempt to create a pan-European company, viz. the 1989 merger between Metal Box Packaging of the UK and Carnaud SA of France, to form the giant CMB Packaging company. The merger is shown to obey sound logic in terms of strategic fit. However, as has been shown theoretically, this international merger experienced serious cultural and integration problems later. CMB Packaging has introduced management changes recently to improve integration.
