European leadership: Key issues
Stefan Wills
European Management Journal, 1996, vol. 14, issue 1, 90-97
Abstract:
Leadership as an issue in management development has been subject to American hegemony for as long as the notion of developing managing has existed. Stefan Wills recently began a project designed to explore whether the concept of 'European leadership' is myth or reality. As a starting point, he interviewed twenty-five European-based managers to elicit their views on European leadership. This article begins by discussing their thinking about models or the nature/essence of leadership. It then draws out their views on the major issues facing European leaders at the moment.
