IT agenda 2000:: Not fixing technical bugs but creating business value

Abstract:
We are in the midst of dealing with several operational issues on the IT agenda -- Euro, Year 2000 conversion, SAP/Oracle implementation, Intranet, Extranet and Internet applications, telecommuting and such. These are critical, time-sensitive issues but they need to be coherently organized to create superior business value. In this paper, I offer an overarching logic for IT strategy as a value center and develop three themes that reflect a business-oriented agenda for the 21st century. I also develop a set of implications to guide managers to develop an effective IT strategy that provides the foundation for the 21st century.
