Building Knowledge-creating Value Networks

Bettina Büchel and Steffen Raub

European Management Journal, 2002, vol. 20, issue 6, 587-596

Abstract: Our research has shown that the most valuable activities in knowledge management focus on creating knowledge networks that extend beyond the traditional concept of communities of practice. 'Business Opportunity' and 'Best Practice Transfer' networks have been shown to directly contribute to the creation of value within firms. In order to foster these value creating networks, we propose a four stage process illustrated by examples of the companies that we have investigated in detail.
