Implementing Knowledge Management:: Three Strategies for Effective CKOs

Steffen Raub and Daniel Von Wittich

European Management Journal, 2004, vol. 22, issue 6, 714-724

Abstract: Despite an abundance of literature on the subject of knowledge management, many firms are still struggle to become more effective at managing their knowledge assets. What they need is not additional concepts but guidelines for effective implementation. Through an empirical study of knowledge management initiatives implemented by a number of leading firms we have identified three strategies for effective CKOs. Successful implementation of knowledge management requires (1) aligning the contributions of key organizational actors, (2) promoting the development of knowledge networks and (3) providing support by delivering a purposeful message.
