Management of talent

Tjerk Hooghiemstra

European Management Journal, 1990, vol. 8, issue 2, 142-149

Abstract: Decisions about people in corporations are often taken on the most superficial basis -- in contrast to other fields of managerial decision-making. Not least for demographic reasons, encouraging talent in corporations has become vital in the 1990s. With reference to the experience of clients of Hay Management Consultants, Tjerk Hooghiemstra presents a framework for the successful management of talent which includes formulae developed by Hay for competency profiling and assessing leadership styles and work climate in the immediate environment. In the end, behavioural and personal qualities appear to be essential.
