Abstract:
The objective of this study was to assess the effect of the Tigray War on schools and students in the Eastern Tigray zone. The question of whether the war has affected the students and schools in Tigray is of great importance. The destruction of schools resulted in 50.3% of students being unable to attend their elementary school and the radius of walking distances to elementary and secondary schools increased from 2.2 km to 4.84 km and 6.3 km to 18.22 km respectively. The destruction of schools has resulted from the total collapse of the educational system in the Eastern Tigray zone. Based on these findings, the researchers recommend several policy interventions aimed at increasing easy access to schools. Finally, the study concludes that investing in education is a promising way to address social issues and those policymakers should prioritize these interventions to promote greater social development.
