Putting spatial product presentation cues on the map: Review and research directions

Abstract: To establish the effects of spatial product presentation (SPP) cues, including location, orientation, and shelf organization, on decision-making at the point-of-purchase, the current study integrates fragmented prior research on small and easy to implement SPP cues and fills a research gap by providing 1) a detailed taxonomy, (2) a review of the effects of SPP cues at the point-of-purchase, (3) a research agenda, and (4) key takeaways for practitioners. This contribution seeks to guide not only practitioners, but also researchers to meet the challenge of understanding how spatial product presentation cues affect consumer decisions at the point of purchase.
