•In entrerpeneurship education, student intentions are linked to their learning decisions.•Each student intention-learning decision combinations is linked to limits in decision possibilities and time to form intentions.•Long delivery formats with optional content that is both similar and dissimilar to students' backgrounds nurture impact.•Long delivery formats with optional content that is similar to students' bacgrounds nurture self-employment.
