Abstract:
•The outbreak of HPAI has caused damage to the world poultry industry, especially in eggs shortage and high egg prices.•Current EU and US policy movements toward cage-free and free-range layer production make biosecurity more challenging.•Caution is needed to balance the animal welfare improvement and biosecurity control.
