A proposal for a hybrid computer with programmed parameter setting - APAC

Abstract: Present day hybrid computers are built by combining an analog and a digital computer through a linkage. In such machines, the digital part affects the course of the analog computation by introducing functions, employing D/A converters, which are varied according to some programmed relationship. A new hybrid computer system design (APAC) is proposed by incorporating with the analog part parameters, called automated parameters, which can be randomly selected and their values set by the digital computer at a relatively high speed. This makes it possible to vary parameter values during a computer run and thus to handle non-linear problems. Such a design is also valuable for problems requiring iteration or solutions to a large number of parameter values and for adaptive control systems.
