Abstract:
The stability of planar librational motion of an undamped, rigid satellite in eccentric orbit is first studied through an analog simulation of the governing, non-linear, non-autonomous equations of motion. The method is extended to investigate the effect of damping on stability and response of such a system in circular orbit. A comparison with numerical solutions establishes the suitability of this approach.
