A design study for a chebyshev polynomial unit for an analogue computer

Abstract:
After showing that Chebyshev polynomials may be easily displayed on an oscilloscope screen as a special case of certain Lissajous figures, the author proposes that this relation may be used as the basis of a Chebyshev polynomial unit for an analogue computer. It is suggested that correctly synchronized cosine waves could be generated by filtering square waves generated by using a sequentially addressed read only memory. It is shown that a slight lack of synchronization of the cosine waves due to filter phase shift does not preclude the satisfactory use of the system, provided that the phase shift is constant with time.
