Abstract:
A modification of the Capacitance Matrix Method is used to extend the Harvard Open Ocean Quasigeostrophic Model to domains containing irregular coastal boundaries. The Modified Capacitance Matrix Method imposes consistent quasigeostrophic boundary conditions. An analytic solution for a problem in coastal oceanography is used to test the accuracy of the method for fully closed and semi-open regions. The Modified Capacitance Matrix Method preserves the efficiency of fast-direct elliptic solvers designed to operate on regular domains.
