Abstract:
Small bins are used to conduct cooling and drying experiments on wheat, barley and peas. Seven conceptual models were tried. They consider different ways in which water may leave the grain. A new equation has been developed to take the hysteresis phenomenon into account. The loss of energy through the bin walls, the variation of air pressure in the bin and the grain respiration have been considered. All these concepts can be modelled with a single parameter to give a simple and accurate model which does not need a powerful computer.
