Identification of internal flow dynamics in two experimental catchments

Abstract: Identification of the internal flow dynamics in catchments is difficult because of the lack of information in precipitation-stream discharge time series alone. Two experimental catchments, Hydrohill and Nandadish, near Nanjing in China, have been set up to monitor internal flows reaching the catchment stream at various depths, from the surface runoff to the bedrock. With analysis of the precipitation against these internal discharges, it is possible to quantify the time constants and volumes associated with various flowpaths in both catchments.
