Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM), 1998, vol. 46, issue 5, 559-574

Abstract: In this paper, a single-point-drive eccentric press is investigated. The goal of these investigations is to analyse its working precision, taking into account spatial ram tiltings, spatial ram displacements, elastic frame/ram distortions and dissipative friction effects in the various bearings and clearances of the bearings. The investigations have been performed by laboratory experiments and by computer simulations using mathematical press models of different complexity. The model parameters have been experimentally identified. Based on these model parameters the process models have been experimentally verified step by step. A comparison of the computer simulations with the laboratory experiments shows that the models accurately describe the static and dynamic behavior of the press. In addition, the results show that the computer simulations of the press provide an efficient tool•for analysing weak-points of those presses,•for performing parameter studies and design alternatives,•for judging design improvements prior to hardware realizations,•for improving the accuracy of manufacture, strain rate and performance of production and•for predicting the efficiency and validity of mechanical presses.
