Simulation analysis of the effects of the junctional folds on spontaneous generation of the miniature endplate current at neuromuscular junction

Takashi Naka

Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (MATCOM), 1998, vol. 46, issue 5, 631-639

Abstract: The dynamic behavior of acetylcholine in the synaptic cleft with a junctional fold is modeled as a reaction–diffusion system in an axis-symmetrical two-dimensional space. The effects of the junctional fold are analyzed by computer simulation on spontaneous generation of the miniature endplate current at the neuromuscular junction. The amplitude of the current may be maximized at an optimal value of the width of the junctional fold, while the depth causes less effects.
