Abstract: A new filtering method for data with intermittency problem is proposed in this paper. In this new method, the original data is pretreated using wavelet method to avoid the mode mixture in the subsequent empirical mode decomposition (EMD) procedure. We make use of the approach to extract intermittency signal so that we can filter it, which the real physical process is manifested well. The method is suitable for the shorter interval intermittency signal as well as the abnormal phenomena with the interval longer than the time scale of background process. Numerical results show that the new method is able to sift out the mode mixing part of the data from the original signal and retain the useful information.
