A model for solid state diffusion

Abstract:
Classical self-diffusion is discussed in the context of a model single particle Hamiltonian containing a periodic potential and a stochastic time dependent potential. Solutions are given in the Gaussian white noise approximation in terms of a Fokker-Planck equation. The effects of spatial dependence in the time dependent potential are illustrated by calculations of the frequency dependent mobility in a simple one dimension example.
