Theory of the polymer chain collapse for the d-dimensional case

A.R. Khokhlov

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1981, vol. 105, issue 1, 357-362

Abstract: The theory of the intramolecular polymer chain collapse (coil-globule transition) is developed for a space of arbitrary dimensionality d. It is shown that for d > 3 the coil-globule phase transition is of the first order, while for d < 3 it is of the second order. In addition, some conclusions are drawn concerning the swelling of the two-dimensional coils.
