Abstract:
We introduce some order parameters to define the spin-glass phase in a mathematically rigorous way and study the thermodynamic properties of spin glasses. We also discuss relations among various definitions of spin glass. The singularity of the nonlinear susceptibility is investigated in various kinds of formulations and we find that there are two different groups. One group shows the divergence of the nonlinear susceptibility at the spin-glass transition point, as was already pointed out. Another group shows no divergence of the nonlinear susceptibility at the transition point, as was discussed phenomenologically. This feature is quite analogous to that of the nonlinear susceptibility in antiferromagnets. A comparison of these results with experimental results is also given.
