On non-analytic thermodynamic behaviour of the classical linear chain

M. van den Berg

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1981, vol. 108, issue 1, 169-179

Abstract: The free energy ƒ per particle and the two-particle distribution function g have been expressed as functionals of the nearest-neighbour interaction Φ(x) for a variety of boundary conditions. For some boundary conditions and potentials Φ(x), ƒ and g behave singularly at a critical density ρc=lims→0+∫0∞e−sx−βΦ(x)dx⧸∫0∞x e−sx−βΦ(x)dx.
