Superstatistical emission noise

Abstract: A model is developed for emission noise in which the mean value itself fluctuates due to modulating processes; the formalism uses compound Poisson statistics. We show that this model is applicable to flicker noise stemming from emission centers, as proposed by Schottky in 1926. Also, the model gives directly the results for cathodoluminescence noise, being in agreement with the results of Fijnaut and Zijlstra. With some modification, the model gives a corpuscular basis for wave interaction noise in quantum optics. Finally, the implications for quantum 1/f noise are discussed.
