Pair correlations in the cluster variation approximation

Abstract:
The cluster variation method is used to obtain approximate free energy functions for a binary system in an inhomogeneous field, in order to calculate the Fourier transform of the pair correlation functions. In the two-dimensional square lattice, using the nearest-neighbors square as the basic cluster, the correlation functions are correctly given up to the order 7 in the inverse temperature. The effect of second-neighbor pairs and many-body interactions is investigated.
