Abstract:
We present new determinations of the sublimation pressures of Xe from 100 to 120 K. From these results and from the heat capacity of solid Xe, an accurate value of h0, the zero temperature sublimation energy of the solid, is obtained. Similar estimates of h0 are made for Ar and Kr, using previously published data. It is shown that knowing h0 and the heat capacity of the solid phase, precise values of the sublimation pressures can be calculated. This is very useful since, below a pressure of about 3 Torr, most of the published results are very imprecise. In fact, we undertook the present study, when we noticed that previously published results for Xe were wrong by 15% below 3 Torr.
