Abstract:
A variational principle for a perfect fluid is derived with the aid of gauge conservation laws as Lagrangian constraints. It is shown that such a variational principle induces, by Noether's theorem, conservation of spin. The variational principle with Clebsch variables is shown to be a spin-zero approximation of the general principle.
