Study of U(3) by embedding in O(6)

Abstract: Two distinct sets of boson creation operators transforming, respectively, like the triplet and antitriplet irreducible representations of SU(3) are used, together with their corresponding annihilation operators, to realize generators and basis states of SU(3) ⊃ G where G is a proper continous subgroup of SU(3). The analysis involves the embedding of SU(3) into O(6), this being achieved through the concept of traceless bosons. The method allows other aspects of SU(3) to be studied also.
